I am a professional cellist and teach all levels. I have been teaching privately for 35 years and have coached the Seattle Youth Symphony, taught at Marrowstone Music Festival and Marrowstone-in-the-City. My strengths are helping students to the most natural and efficient use of their body to play the cello, while striving for the most beautiful music-making they are capable of. Highly accomplished and innovative piano teacher with 30 years experience. Conservatory graduate. I teach all levels and all ages, with a specialty in adult beginners and adults returning to the piano after an absence. In addition to classical music I teach jazz & pop styles and improvisation. My approach to technique is based on solid understanding of the body (arms, hands, fingers) and not on dull repetition of mechanical exercises. I also emphasize ear training, playing by ear and harmonizing songs, learning about chords and about "how music works."

Students can expect to learn note-reading, expression, music theory, and composition appropriate to their level. I enjoy helping others learn the joy of expressing themselves through their music. I have moved myself, and had students who also moved often, so I'm familiar with the difficulties and frustrations this can cause.
