Jessica Saunders is a soprano from Des Monies, Iowa. She holds a Masters of Music degree from the University of Northern Iowa, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Wartburg College. She is currently attending the University of Iowa finishing Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree in vocal performance. She also serves as the Opera Research Assistant at the University of Iowa and teaches applied voice at Kirkwood Community College in Iowa City. Saunders is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
Saunders judges the Bill Riley Talent Search at the Iowa State Fair, and has also judged for local Miss Iowa Pageants. She has performed with the Druid City Opera Workshop, University of Iowa Opera Theater, Wartburg Choir, Wartburg Opera Ensemble, UNI Opera Ensemble and Quad Cities Opera. She also performs recitals at weddings and other special events across Iowa and is available for master classes and workshops. Her students have appeared as semi-finalists in the Bill Riley talent search as well as productions with City Circle Community Theater, Iowa City Community Theater, and Young Footlighters.
Jessica has been performing since she was seven and teaching privately since 2007. Her teaching experience includes a private studio, as well as at the University of Northern Iowa, where she taught voice lessons and served as an assistant to the Opera Director. Jessica is comfortable teaching both classical voice and musical theater styles to students of varying skill levels from ages 6 to adult. She believes in building confidence in her students and strives to work with each student to explore their individual skills and talents. Saunders currently teaches at the West Music Conservatory of Music in Coralville, Iowa, as well as privately in Iowa City, Jesup and the Cedar Valley.
